Murli Thirumale – CEO,
Ocarina Networks
Murli Thirumale leads the overall strategy and business execution at Ocarina.
Prior
to co-founding Ocarina, Thirumale was Group Vice President
and GM of the Citrix Advanced Solutions Group, where
he led the SSL-VPN division (acquired via Net6) to the number #1 unit
market share and #2 revenue share position in eighteen months.
As the
CEO and co-founder of Net6, Thirumale led the company
from its inception through acquisition. He provided the
vision and strategy for leveraging the company's unique network focus
and approach to SSL-VPN security, IP telephony/VOIP applications and
data mobility. Under his leadership, Net6 attracted $17 million in
venture capital funding, secured OEM relationships with Cisco, Avaya
and Nortel, and was acquired by Citrix Systems.
Prior to Net6, Thirumale
was executive vice president and general manager of Symmetricom
where he founded a new broadband division for the company and established
Symmetricom as the undisputed leader in telecom network
timing. Prior to Symmetricom, Thirumale also spent fifteen years at
Hewlett-Packard where he served as general manager of
Timing Solutions for Communications Operation. Thirumale also founded
two new business units at Hewlett-Packard: Network Synchronization
and OEM Wireless Timing.
Thirumale holds a BS in
Electrical Engineering with distinction from the Institute
of Technology-BHU in India and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg
Graduate School of Management where he was an Austin Distinguished
Scholar. |

Goutham Rao – CTO,
Ocarina Networks
Goutham Rao is responsible for algorithmic research and design,
architectural guidance and technology vision.
Prior to Ocarina,
Rao was the CTO of the Advanced Solutions Group for Citrix
Systems. Citrix ASG provided solutions for Secure Remote
Access, IP Telephony Applications, Business Continuity
and Mobile Solutions. Rao provided technology and product leadership
to Citrix Systems on identifying new market opportunities.
Rao was the CTO of Net 6 and joined Citrix via the
acquisition. Rao invented the Hybrid VPN, the first of its kind to
provide application access from any PC with support for
real time applications such as VoIP. Using cutting edge SSL over IP
techniques, Rao architected a channel ready product that worked seamlessly
for all applications with superior application performance and geographical
high availability.
Prior to joining Net6, Rao was an open source Linux
kernel developer AND a key Operating Systems Architect
at Intel where he worked on the IA-64 project. At Intel,
Rao worked on various UNIX kernels, and in particular designed and
implemented some key components of Linux's Intel 64 bit architecture.
He was also a key architect with Lockheed Martin on a distribution
and optimization network for low bandwidth radio based networks, a
program used by the US Government in the defense industry.
Rao holds
an MS in Computer Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania
and a BE from Bangalore University both with high distinction. Rao
has authored many patents and has published articles in areas such
as business continuity, secure remote access and distributed fault
tolerant architectures. |

Matt Murphy - Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers
Matt Murphy is a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers; he joined in 1999. His focus areas of investment include mobile applications and communications-computing infrastructure. Matt is either a Director or works closely with the management teams of Autonavi, Dash, Pelago, M2Z, IPUnity, Kodiak Networks, RGB Networks, Stoke, Aerohive Networks, Ocarina, Xsigo, and eASIC. Previously Matt was a board observer at Google (from initial investment to IPO) and director at Peakstream (acquired by Google).
Prior to KPCB, Matt led product management at a semiconductor
start-up (Netboost acquired by Intel), worked at Sun Microsystems
where he led business development for the Network Systems Group and
was a Product Line Manager for networking platforms. He also worked
in strategic and technical consulting for a number of years at Booz,
Allen, & Hamilton and Accenture.
Matt holds a BS in Electrical Engineering
from Tufts University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate
School of Business. |

Peter Bell - Highland Capital Partners
Peter works with technology investments across all stages of company growth.
As an industry veteran, Peter has worked with and invested in companies in
the information security, e-commerce, data center infrastructure, enterprise
software and communications industries. Peter represents Highland on the
boards of ExaGrid Systems and Ocarina Networks.
Before joining Highland Capital
Partners, Peter was Managing Director and founder of
Stowe Capital, LLC, which specialized in providing capital
and management expertise to emerging growth companies. Prior to establishing
Stowe Capital in 2002, Peter was the co-founder, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of StorageNetworks, an information storage software
and services company. Under his leadership, Peter took the company
from pioneering concept to over $120 million in annual revenue in
three years and closed six rounds of equity capital financing, totaling
over $700 million, including a successful IPO in June 2000.
Peter began
his career at EMC Corporation. During his tenure he held
positions in marketing, operations and sales and played
a key role in building and managing the Open Storage Group at EMC,
a major growth engine for the company. Peter currently serves on the
board of directors of Healthbase, PeerApp, Prospectiv and WeiTai Technology
LTD, a Chinese storage company. He is also on the board
of advisors of Personeta.
Peter lives in the Boston area with his wife
and three boys. He is a member of the Board of Trustees
at Boston College. In addition, Peter currently serves
as a Distinguished Executive in Residence at The Carroll School of
Management at Boston College and is a Senior Lecturer at The Sloan
School of Management at MIT. Peter is the co-founder of the Boston
College Technology Council.
Peter holds a bachelor’s
degree in Accounting from Boston College, an MBA from
Harvard Business School and an Honorary Doctorate from

B.V. Jagadeesh
- CEO, 3Leaf Systems
Jagadeesh's entrepreneurial career began in 1994 when he co-founded
Exodus Communications, which became the leader in the Internet Web
co-location business for mission-critical Internet applications and
went through an IPO. Exodus was sold to Cable and Wireless in 2002
and eventually acquired by Savvis communications. He was also instrumental
in founding VPNet Technologies which was acquired by Avaya. Prior to
founding Exodus, he has held senior positions at 3Com and Novell.
In
2000, he joined Netscaler as CEO and raised money from
some of the top tier. NetScaler products today sit in
front of some of the most well known and complex sites in the world
such as Google, Amazon, E-Bay, CricInfo, Yahoo, Apple and over thousand
other customers. Netscaler grew to become the market leader in Application
Delivery Systems and was acquired by Citrix for $325M in 2005. He
was Group Vice President and General Manager of Citrix Systems' Application
Networking Group and currently serving in an advisory
role transitioning before embarking his next project.
At present, he
works with several leading VC's such as Sequoia Capital
and Gabriel Venture partners and is currently on the
board of FireEye (a security malware attack protection
company), Edurite (providing education over web),
NetMagic Solutions (a managed internet data center company)
and Ocarina Networks (an application aware storage company).
Jagadeesh
holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
from Bangalore University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering
