Ocarina ECOreaders

The Ocarina ECOreader

The ECOreader is a software layer that allows applications to read optimized files on your storage just as if they were in their original file format. It sits transparently in line between applications and storage and presents an application’s original data to it just as though it had never been optimized on disk. The ECOreader is typically deployed as a component on the Ocarina Optimizer appliance, but may also be deployed directly on application and web servers, on dedicated ECOreader servers that sit between applications and storage. For example, customers may elect to deploy ECOreader across a web server farm, which reduces LAN network load, and distributes the CPU load for 'rehydration' of data.

While the Ocarina Optimizer is a high-performance appliance that reads your files and optimizes your storage, it is not a single point of failure. If the Ocarina appliance fails, Ocarina ECOreaders on any of your application servers can still read any optimized file. Any system running the Ocarina ECOreader can read any optimized file, so the ECOreader also includes failover protection. You can have as many instances of it running on as many machines as you want – and any of them can read any optimized file.
